Smart Growth California partners with networks and philanthropy-serving organizations across the state, as well as other TFN working groups. Numerous funders active in Smart Growth California engage with these partner efforts, and the above graphic shows some of the relationships between these efforts. Affiliated working groups and partner efforts include:
Statewide and Regional Groups
- ClimatePlan is a statewide network working to improve land-use and transportation planning to protect Californians’ health, communities, environment, and climate. Members of Smart Growth California’s Statewide Steering Committee have a monthly ad hoc meeting with members of ClimatePlan’s advisory Board
- Great Communities Collaborative is a network of organizations dedicated to creating healthy, thriving, and affordable neighborhoods in the Bay Area, anchored by transit and linked to all the opportunities and amenities that make a good community truly great. GCC is a collaboration of funders and practitioners.
- “Wildfires: Coalition-Building and Policy Advocacy, is an emerging effort co-hosted by The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and Smart Growth California. The Hewlett Foundation is supporting grantees in four western states, including California, that are building diverse and inclusive coalitions of wildfire experts and other wildfire-impacted fields to strengthen state and federal policy advocacy for building wildfire resilience of communities and wildlands. Their areas of focus that most connects with Smart Growth California are land use planning and development in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).
The Funders Network (TFN)
- Mobility and Access Collaborative is an action-oriented effort that recognizes the urgency for ambitious — and quickly implemented — transportation solutions to limit the devastating impacts of climate change. The collaborative brings together place-based, regional and national funders to share stories, examine best practices and explore critical issues.
- Urban Water Funders is a network of place-based and national funders addressing urban water issues in communities across the country. Funders learn together, build relationships, and catalyze action.
- Inclusive Economies brings place-based funders and related partners from across the sector together to build working relationships, advancing understanding of practices and policies that lead to inclusive prosperity and taking joint action that drives the field forward. They apply a three-part focus — race, place and prosperity — to economic growth and development.
- GREEN which stands for Green, Renewable, Efficient, Equitable, Now — brings together local, regional and national funders to connect and learn, align thinking and strategy and support strategic collaborations and joint projects that advance sustainable, equitable and prosperous regions and communities.
- PLACES — which stands for Professionals Learning About Community, Equity and Sustainability — is a year-long learning opportunity designed to help grantmakers embed the values of racial, social and economic equity into their work.
- TFN’s Annual Conference brings funders together to explore the strategies and stories that are creating more equitable, sustainable, and resilient places to live.
