The Climate Funders Collaborative Steering Committee (Baja/Imperial/San Diego Region) invites you to the next network-wide, in-person gathering on July 12th, from noon to 3 pm at the University of San Diego.
At this gathering, you’ll have an opportunity to connect with funders engaged in climate-related issues and take a deeper dive into topics related to creating inclusive, climate-oriented communities. We’ll learn about the Nonprofit Institute’s recently released research finding that climate/environmental organizations comprise only 2 percent of the San Diego region’s nonprofits and operate on lean budgets, with 50 percent operating on $250,000 or less annually. Philanthropic support is also relatively small, with only 3 percent of grants from foundations going to climate/environmental nonprofits climate/environmental organizations make up only 2 percent of more than 12,000 nonprofits in our region.
Building off last year’s retreat and our recent gathering in Barrio Logan, we’re focusing on intersectional issues relating to climate justice, as well as philanthropic and community-based practices and trends relevant to the region. Together, we’re working to identify new opportunities and areas of alignment and activate philanthropic resources to strengthen connections to support frontline communities impacted by climate change and uplift locally driven solutions that build climate resilience by integrating a trust-based and racial justice lens.
