How Can Funders Help a New Climate Program Lift Up Some of California’s Most Disadvantaged Communities?
Smart Growth California invites funders to a special webinar focused on California’s new Transformative Climate Communities Program.
The Transformation Climate Communities Program is the result of AB 2722, a bill passed last year that requires the California Strategic Growth Council to set up a competitive process to award monies to neighborhood-scale projects that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide local, environmental, economic, and health benefits to disadvantaged communities.
Today, the State of California is proposing to invest $140 million of its cap-and-trade money in 2018 through the Transformative Climate Communities Program in three communities: likely $70 million in Fresno, $35 million in Los Angeles, and $35 million in a third location. This innovative program provides a unique opportunity to address climate change and benefit low-income communities, which is why we want to help funders get up-to-speed as soon as possible.
Our featured speaker is Randall Winston, Executive Director of the California Strategic Growth Council. Over the next few months, the Strategic Growth Council will seek public input about how to leverage these investments to help drive transformational change in the targeted communities. The Strategic Growth Council will reach out to public agencies, community groups, foundations, businesses, financial institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and others.
You are invited to join us for a conversation with Mr. Winston, who will share his insights on the Transformative Climate Communities Program and discuss how funders can contribute to the success of this promising program.
You can register now for the June 15th call.
