The U.S. oil, gas, and petrochemical industry has big plans for development that could devastate progress towards stabilizing our climate as well as threaten the health of hundreds of local communities. Two new reports (from Center for International Environmental Law and Oil Change International) show that greenhouse gas emissions from just three areas or sectors would be equivalent to constructing more than 800 five hundred-megawatt coal fired powerplants by 2050. And it would claim nearly one-third of the world’s carbon budget necessary to keep warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Among the biggest U.S. climate bombs are:
• Oil and gas development in Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico;
• Expanded petrochemical and plastic production in multiple U.S. regions; and
• Natural gas development in Appalachia.
This webinar will explore how, together, the global climate and local health impacts of this development contain the seeds of a solution.
