Please join the Los Angeles Funders’ Collaborative, the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, The California Wellness Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, and Southern California Grantmakers for a funders-only bus tour in South Los Angeles to explore how food can be a powerful driver of equity and community economic development.
Food is essential to the health and vitality of a community. Through evidence-based practices, creative placemaking and social enterprising, nonprofits are using food to connect health, culture and economic opportunity in historically disenfranchised communities. Investments in community-rooted food enterprise can be a critical way to stabilize neighborhoods in transition and garner economic and social equity.
This tour will feature the projects of several non-profit organizations who are bridging healthy food access and equitable economic development. Looking at community food enterprise at various scales ranging from street vendors to neighborhood markets to a major distribution and growing hub, the tour will highlight food security and food access and the case for an increased investment of social and economic capital, specifically in South Los Angeles.
